baby blog

Well, here's my very first attempt at blogging - my "newborn" diary about Doublestein life, mainly focusing on the daily exploits of Annie (almost 3) and Jemma (6 months). We'll see how it goes. I bought a journal about 4 months ago, fully intending to write in it each night before bed and record the amusing things Annie says, the milestones Jemma reaches, and the little triumphs and challenges of being their mommy. I have written in it exactly zero times. Then my new neighbor Sarah mentioned that she blogged as a hobby, and I suddenly wondered if this way of keeping track wouldn't be easier. So here goes (and thanks, Sarah)!

This morning: up at 6:30 after a night where Jemma cried randomly at 1:something, 3:30 and 4:45 (fed her then). She's almost crawling and spends lots of time every day getting up on her hands and knees and rocking back and forth, then sprawling on the ground and turning 360 degrees to get what she wants. Her hair continues to look freakishly long for her age and like a bad comb-over, so I am trying to keep a barrette in it when possible.

Annie is going through some potty training regression that makes me crazy. After a solid month of doing fine with it, she is suddenly resisting going on the potty, especially to poop. She's afraid of the sound the flush makes, of poop getting on something, of it being diarrhea . . . and probably many other unnamed things, too. I feel so badly for her when I watch her struggle like this and am also a tiny bit furious with her for asserting her control this way. I am trying not to worry about it every minute and remember that it's just a phase like everything else. In other Annie news, she's very into the idea of "going for a run" in the mornings (like her mommy!), doing everything by herself (getting into her carseat, putting her shoes on, getting dressed) and has been announcing, "I'm a grown-up" all the time. She's hilarious and we can't believe she'll be three in just a couple of months.

Today is going to be filled with laundry, packing, errand-running, and general chaos as we try to get ready to leave for Petoskey tomorrow after the Reed's Lake Run. I can't decide if it will be wonderful to be up north (help with kids, boat, 4th of July fun) or too much work to be worth it (sleeping and eating schedules out the window, in-law drama, etc.). We'll see! I'm hoping for some good time on Walloon and some fun outside activities with all the girls. Annnie, I'm sure, will be happy to see Berit.
